Vital Strategies: Help Save A Life

Since 2020 (the pandemic), opioid overdose deaths among white Kentuckians have decreased 10%, while overdose deaths among Black Kentuckians have increased by over 50%.

Stigmatizing or avoiding or shaming Black people we know who use drugs only makes our overdose problem WORSE.  In Kentucky, we’ve been led to believe that the overdose crisis is “a white person’s issue.” That’s not true.

Neighborhoods like West Louisville, Russell, California, Parkland, Chickasaw, Shively – these Black
Neighborhoods have some of the highest rates of fatal overdoses in all of Kentucky.

Bella Rae with B96.5 and Chea K with Magic 101.3 are helping by taking to the airwaves in a campaign to stem the
rising tide of overdose deaths in Louisville’s Black communities. Bella Rae and Chea K are urging audiences to carry overdose-reversing naloxone and learn about fentanyl testing strips, raising awareness about the presence of fentanyl in illicit drugs, and rejecting stigma as crucial measures to help save lives.

Help us save a life by carrying your very own naloxone and fentanyl test strips. Below are places you can go to get FREE naloxone. If you need more locations please go to findnaloxone.ky.gov
