Man Reportedly Scammed More Than 30 Women Out Of $2.1M
Sep 9, 2019 @ 9:38am
A New Jersey man is accused of scamming more than 30 women out of $2.1 million.
Rubbin Sarpong set up several dating profiles with fake identities and after pursuing romantic relationships with women, he told them he was military personnel stationed in Syria and had been awarded $12 million in gold bars that needed to be shipped to the United States.
Sarpong asked the women for money for shipping the bars in exchange for a hefty reimbursement. The women wired money, sent personal and cashier’s checks.
One woman even committed suicide after sending Sarpong, $93,000 a day after the transaction. Sarpong is currently in jail on wire fraud charges and is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
